Baradari Mosque

Description

Baradari - Bara Dari, Bara in Urdu/Hindi means Twelve and Dar is door, it is a building or pavilion with 12 doors designed to allow free flow of air. The structure has three doorways on every side of the square-shaped structure. Because of their outstanding acoustic features, these buildings were particularly well-suited for performances by Raqasaz (dancer) - the noble courtesans of India - and other artists. They were also valued for their fresh air during hot summers.

History

The Sadhana Enclave features Baradari an arched hall. Thought to have been built in the 14th century or 15th century. Baradari is having seven bays from north to south and three bays deep belongs to Tughlaq period (14th Century) located in the center of the residential colony. It is in a fairly well-preserved condition. It was conserved during the year 2001 after exposing the plinth and attended to other conservational measures like edging the ancient plaster, pointing deep joints of the stone masonry with suitable mortar and water tightening of the roof. Traces of broken stone chhajja are found over these arched openings on the eastern façade which was replaced. The surface of the monument was thoroughly cleaned after removing micro-vegetation. Suitable grill boundary was provided all around the monument. Our government doing an incredible work in conservation of Baradari which inspires us to support our government by maintaining discipline and not harming the monument.
